The Kabeirion, sanctuary dedicated to Kabeiros and Pais and situated about 6 km west of Thebes, had a long life (9th-4th c. AD) during which it underwent several changes. Initially dedications were clrearly made to Kabeiros and Pais, whereas in the classical period cultic features indicated a proximity to the cult of Dionysus. The area of ancient Korsiae (modern village of Prodromos or Chostia) is a small plain in south-western Boeotia surrounded by Mt Helicon: to the north rises Mt Palaiovouna (height: 1,748m); to the west the hill ‘Rache Mada’ (height: 671m); and to the east the hillock ‘Malia Sega’ (height: 424m).       Krenites Arotras (strategos of the Theme of Hellas) (30/9/2010 v.1) Κρηνίτης Αροτράς (στρατηγός του θέματος Ελλάδος) (30/9/2010 v.1)

Byzantine strategos ("general") of the theme of Hellas, from the Armenian lineage of Krenitai. He was active in the 10th century AD. He was a contemporary of the local saint Loukas Steiriotes and contributed substantially in the erection of the church of St. Barbara in the monastery founded by saint Loukas, built before the main church (katholikon) of the monastic complex. After his service in the theme of Hellas he was appointed governor of the theme of Peloponnesos.
