SUMMARY
The sanctuaries of Apollo Ptoos and Hero Ptoos are situated east of Acraephnium. The sanctuary of Apollo was an important oracle of Boeotia, and had its heyday in the Archaic period. The kouros statues stand out among the rich votive offerings from this period, and the festival of Ptoia was famed, with contests held until the 3rd cent. AD. From the Archaic to the Hellenistic periods, Hero Ptoos was venerated in the nearby sanctuary.
