In the 10th century Boeotia, similarly to the entire Southern Greece, suffered many pillaging raids on the mainland as well as the coast. The most important ones were perpetrated by the Bulgarians: under Tsar Simeon between 918 and 927, and under Tsar Samuel in 996/997. Notably, these raids are not recorded by any historian of the Byzantine capital, being mentioned only in two humble hagiographical texts and a later chronicle, all of which are of local scope and interest. |
