ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Thisbe is located on the foothills of Mt Helicon, close to the Corinthian Gulf. In Antiquity it was an important city of Boeotia; remains of the ancient city’s walls survive today. In the Byzantine period it was renamed to Kastorion and has been identified as the birthplace of the Venerable (Hosios) St. Luke; in the Ottoman period it was called Kakosi. Until 2010 it was the seat of the namesake municipality which included the neighbouring country town of Domvraina, the villages Prodromos, Xironomi, Ellopia, and the seaside settlement of Alyki, which has been identified as the site of the ancient city of Siphai. |
