SUMMARY
Panakton was a classical and early Hellenistic garrison fort maintained by Athenians on the frontier with Boeotia. The site has levels of prehistoric occupation, and undisturbed remains of a Late Byzantine village below the tower on the summit. Attractive for its defensible, mountaintop location, Panakton was the most substantial settlement in the area of the Skourta plain (Dervenochoria) in the periods of its occupation. |
